Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 12/08/2026

These terms and conditions govern your use of the website albertshorsesanctuary.org.uk and any donation, sponsorship or purchase you make through it. By using this website, donating, sponsoring an animal, or placing an order, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. About us

Albert’s Horse Sanctuary is a registered charity in England and Wales.

  • Registered charity number: 1114287
  • Registered address: South Lane, Cawthorne, Barnsley S75 4EF
  • Contact for data protection matters: info@albertshorsesanctuary.org.uk

2. Payments benefit the charity

All money received through this website — whether by donation, animal sponsorship, or gift-shop purchase — is collected by and for Albert’s Horse Sanctuary and is used to further the charity’s purposes, including the care, welfare and upkeep of the animals in our care and the running of the sanctuary. No payment made through this website is for the private benefit of any individual. We may allocate funds at our discretion to wherever the need is greatest, unless a specific appeal states otherwise.

3. Donations

  • Donations are voluntary gifts to the charity. You can choose your own amount where a “name your price” option is offered, subject to any minimum or maximum shown.
  • Because donations are gifts rather than the purchase of goods or services, they are generally non-refundable. However, if you make a donation in error (for example, a duplicated or clearly mistaken amount), please contact us as soon as possible and we will consider a refund at our discretion.
  • We rely on the accuracy of the information you provide when you donate.

4. Animal sponsorships

  • Sponsoring an animal is a symbolic sponsorship in support of our work. It does not give you any legal ownership of, or rights over, the animal, and it does not entitle you to take the animal from the sanctuary.
  • The animal remains in our care and under our sole control at all times. All decisions about an animal’s care, veterinary treatment, rehoming or welfare are made by us.
  • Any sponsor benefits (such as updates, certificates, or visits) are offered at our discretion and any visits are subject to prior arrangement and availability.
  • Animals in a sanctuary are, sadly, sometimes elderly or unwell. If a sponsored animal passes away or leaves our care, we may transfer your sponsorship to another animal and will let you know.

5. Recurring sponsorships and subscriptions

  • Where you choose a recurring sponsorship or subscription, you authorise us (through our payment provider) to take regular payments of the amount and at the frequency shown at the time you sign up.
  • Renewal payments are taken automatically at the then-current sponsorship amount until you cancel.
  • You can cancel at any time through your account, or by contacting us using the details above. Cancellation stops future payments. Payments already taken for the current period are generally non-refundable, though we will consider requests at our discretion.
  • We will give you reasonable notice of any change to the amount or frequency of a recurring payment.

6. Gift shop purchases (physical goods)

Purchases of physical items from our gift shop are contracts for the sale of goods, and your statutory consumer rights apply.

  • Pricing and availability — prices are shown in pounds sterling (£) and include VAT where applicable. We try to keep prices and stock accurate but may correct errors or decline an order where an item is unavailable or a genuine pricing error has occurred.
  • Delivery — we will deliver to the address you provide. Delivery timescales and any charges are shown at checkout.
  • Right to cancel — under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you have the right to cancel most gift-shop orders within 14 days of receiving the goods, and to return them for a refund. This 14-day cancellation right does not apply to donations or sponsorships, which are voluntary gifts.
  • Faulty or incorrect items — if goods are faulty, damaged or not as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to a repair, replacement or refund. Please contact us.
  • Returns — Before returning goods please email or call first. The return address is above.

7. Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer and make a Gift Aid declaration, we can reclaim tax on your eligible donation from HMRC at no extra cost to you. By making a declaration you confirm you meet HMRC’s conditions. Please tell us if your circumstances change, if you stop paying enough tax, or if you want to cancel your declaration. Some sponsorship arrangements that come with donor benefits may not qualify for Gift Aid; we will only claim Gift Aid where a donation is eligible.

8. Payment

Payments are processed securely by our payment providers, Stripe (for recurring sponsorships and subscriptions) and PayPal (for one-off donations and payments). By making a payment you agree to the relevant provider’s terms. We do not store your full card details.

9. Your account

If you create an account you are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity under your account. Please contact us if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

10. Acceptable use

You agree to use the website lawfully and not to misuse it, attempt to gain unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, or disrupt the site or its security.

11. Intellectual property

You may not reproduce or reuse it without our written permission, except as allowed by law.

12. Liability

We take reasonable care to keep the website accurate and available, but we do not guarantee it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the website. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force is the one published on this page, with the “last updated” date shown above.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the courts of England and Wales.
